【夏の高校野球】岡山大会 関西が岡山理大付を振り切り３年ぶりＶ
第９６回全国高校野球選手権岡山大会（県高野連など主催）は大会最終日（１１日目）の２７日、倉敷マスカットスタジアム（倉敷市）で決勝戦が行われた。関西が岡山理大付を下して３年ぶり９回目の優勝を飾り、８月９日に阪神甲子園球場（兵庫県西宮市）で開幕する全国大会への出場を決めた。関西は春夏２１回目の甲子園で、県内最多出場記録を更新した。

試合は決勝戦の重圧からか両チームの投手がともに制球に苦しみ、四死球を連発（計１４）する展開。ともに１０安打を放ったが、好機に確実に加点した関西が理大付を突き放した。

◇執念の１点、涙は見せず－－蒲池寛太主将（興譲館３年）
「勝っておいしい昼飯を食おう」－－。３点差を付けられ、なお無死一、二塁となった八回裏。内野手が集まった円陣で、興譲館の蒲池寛太主将（３年）が言った。小畠空投手（２年）には「打たれてもいい。思い切って投げろ」と伝えた。
主将としていばらの道を進んできた。昨秋の県大会で負けた時、高田康隆監督が選手全員の前で、「主将を代える」と宣言した。蒲池選手は当時レギュラーではなかった。主将なのに、「『俺が、俺が』という気持ちが強く、チームのことを考えられていなかったから」と振り返る。
それから練習後、毎日、夜遅くまで鏡の前で納得がいくまで素振りをする日々を続けた。また、「高田監督に生き様を教わった。自分の器を大きくすれば、チームの器も大きくなる」と。今年１月、主将に復帰し、レギュラーの一塁手にもなった。「レギュラー争いの楽しさや心に余裕を持つことができた」。
この日は４打数３安打。九回の先頭打者として左翼線二塁打を放ち、代打・松本恭典選手（３年）の左翼ファウルフライでタッチアップして生還。「とにかく１点が取りたかった」。だが、後続が断たれた。
