「ドクターイエロー」車内を公開 岡山
ＪＲ西日本は２７日、東海道・山陽新幹線を走りながら線路や電気、通信機器の点検を行う検査車両「ドクターイエロー」の走行中の車内を報道陣に初めて公開した。３月に迎える山陽新幹線の全線開業４０周年記念の一環。
検査車両はＪＲ西日本と東海が１編成ずつ所有し、東京-博多間を約１０日に１回往復。正式名称は「新幹線電気軌道総合試験車」だが、黄色い車体からドクターイエローの愛称で親しまれている。
７００系をベースにした７両編成。車内にはパンタグラフ（集電装置）の状態を間近で見られる専用の天井窓が２カ所あるほか、架線の摩耗具合や線路のゆがみといった測定データをリアルタイムに表示するモニターが並び、検査員が波形や数値に異常がないかを絶えず見守っている。
新幹線管理本部施設課の田原興太課長代理は「故障が起こる前にメンテナンスができるようデータを蓄積するのがドクターイエローの役目。新幹線の安全を陰で支える車両があることを知ってもらえれば」と話した。
ドクターイエローのダイヤは非公開。「見かけると幸せになれる」ともいわれ、停車駅では情報を聞きつけた親子連れらが到着を待ちわびた。
山陽新幹線は１９７２年３月に新大阪-岡山間が開業。７５年に岡山-博多間が開通し、全線（営業距離約６２０キロ）がつながった。
