山田方谷から岡山の活性化策探る
幕末に備中松山藩の藩政改革に尽力した陽明学者・山田方谷（１８０５～７７年）の思想や手腕から岡山県の活性化策を探るシンポジウム「蘇（よみがえ）れ
岡山魂！ 山田方谷から学ぶ」（岡山ロータリークラブ主催、山陽新聞社後援）が４日、岡山市北区柳町、山陽新聞社さん太ホールで開かれた。
方谷６代目直系子孫で、独立行政法人都市再生機構理事の野島透氏が基調講演。藩財政の正確な分析と徹底した情報公開などが改革成功の鍵となったと説明した。
古市大蔵同クラブ会長をコーディネーターにしたパネルディスカッションでは、方谷の思想を学ぶ意義について、岡崎彬岡山商工会議所会頭（方谷さんを広める会応援連絡会代表）が「国の借金が膨らみ経済が低迷する現代の状況は幕末と似ており、方谷の手法は基本的に現代に通じる」と強調。小嶋光信両備ホールディングス会長（岡山藩郡代津田永忠顕彰会長）は「民の幸せを願った方谷の思想を見つめ直し、一人一人が国のために何をすべきかを考えよう」と訴えた。
方谷の人となりについて、宮長雅人中国銀行頭取は「人の生きる道を突き詰め実践した人。人の心を読む能力にたけていた」とした。
同クラブの創立記念行事として開催し、市民約４００人が聴講。越宗孝昌・創立８１周年記念ロータリーデイ実行委員長が閉会あいさつした。
